Another fantastic event has been held and some great racing was had throughout the field.
Round 5 was a feature of the Winton Festival of Speed and another great weekend of motorsport, unfortunately we lost one car before the weekend started but some great racing was had with no contact between any cars, some new faces, new cars and great atmosphere. A great Friday night was had with a roast dinner with just over 40 people making it including a number of NSW people, it was great to have new faces with Simon Meyer, brother of Damien driving a Austin Healey Sprite with us for the first time, and just his 3rd car race! Second generation racer Sean Herlihy joined the field following the foot steps of long time friends Chris Gidney and Paul Vernall who both followed their parents into MG Racing as well. We also saw Glen Wood’s father Ian make his first start for 20 years since competing in Commodore Cup. From NSW we saw Stephen Jones (Midget), Bob Rowntree (B), Peter Mohacsi (Midget), Bret McManus (B) and the Meyer brothers. Glen Wood once again showed his class, clean sweeping all 3x races with Damien Meyer’s Midget 2nd and Richard Milligan in the familiar red V8 3rd in each race.
The Interstate Challenge was very close with NSW actually leading in the final race but only 2 NSW cars finished the final race which handed it to Victoria. Some great racing over the weekend and many positive comments from racers, hopefully we can carry this through the last two rounds. A break now until Phillip Island in October and Sandown in November.
A big thank you to Phil Chester & Paul Vernall for their organisation of the weekend, Phil again going above and beyond to make the event fantastic, please spread the word about the event for next year and thank you to Bec Leadingham and Kay Herlihy for cooking the BBQ Sunday.
