We welcomed back the Bennett and Taylor clan at Sandown, 12 months on from a tough run where they didn’t make Sunday.
The team rebuilt and after 12 months returned, a washout on Friday gave driver Glen Taylor barely more than sighting laps, but as the weekend went on the potential started to come.
Qualifying saw Taylor take pole by 1.59 seconds to Glen Wood, in the opening race it was Taylor who drove away, the gap not as big just .8 between fastest laps and Taylor took a strong 8 second victory from Glen Wood and Richard Milligan. A battle we all expected of Wood vs Taylor seemed to peter out and Wood announced one reason why, withdrawing with a gearbox failure in race 1 ending his weekend.
Taylor kept on with a 1:16.3354 on Sunday morning’s race enough to eclipse Mort Fitzgerald’s long standing record from April 2005 of 1:16.40.
Congrats to the whole team on a stellar performance and taking the lap record, we can’t wait for some battles next year.
A big thanks to Peter Bennett, Barry and Glen Taylor and all their family for the effort they put in to get back down here it was a pleasure having them.
