Brothers Battle at Winton FoS

For a number of seasons Damien Meyer has run select rounds of the MG Road Racing Championship, due to business commitments and the travel required to come from Sydney for each round he has been unable to have a full championship tilt. Sporadic appearances have netted regular top 5 placings and have even starred with a memorable run battling Andrew Howell’s MG ZR Judd and Adrian Akhurst’s BTCC MG ZS last season at Sandown. After spending 18 months chasing niggling issues with his red rocket ship he heads to Winton hoping for a strong run “hopefully we have solved the issues and we can have a solid weekend, we won’t be able to challenge for the win but top 3 is very achieveable” commented Damien. With some minor updates to his Midget including new wheel and tyre package it will change the car a lot since 12 months ago, “we will go from Yokohama to Avon tyres which will be a big difference and we might have to change the setup a lot when we get to Winton but it will be fun”. Damien comes off the back of strong results including 1st in the 2014 Group S Championship (Winning Class Sb), 2015 Phillip Island Classic (1st Group Sb under 1300cc) and the 2015 Retro Speedfest in Sydney (1st Group Sb) driving Bob Rowntree’s MG Midget so will jump back into his rocket ship for Winton having been out of the saddle of it for 9 months. Damien currently holds no fewer than 8 Group Sb lap records in Australia and has cleaned up this year with 1st Group S at Phillip

Joining Damien for his first run with us is younger brother Simon, with just as many achievements he recently changed from karts to cars and has been driving Greg Prunster’s Sprite affectionately known as “tigger” for it’s paint job. Simon’s best run so far was at the Sydney Retro Speedfest where he placed 2nd in Group Sb under 1300cc where he finished an overall high of 15th from 34 runners beating 911’s, Shelby GT350’s and much more. Simon will do double duty in Group S and MG’s in the same car and can’t wait to see what Winton is like having never been there before. It should help the underpowered Group S Sprite ruffle some feathers.

The weekend will feature qualifying and 3x races including a feature 15 lap final race on Sunday. You can see the brother’s achievements below;
