Welcome to a new year and what we hope will be another great season of racing.
On a committee level 2017 was about building towards 2018 and 2019, and setting the series up for success. We built some great ties with the club including the Youth Register of the MGCC at Sandown Historic, we also found some great exposure of MG Racing with our season launch and fundraiser with Shannons in Heatherton and combined with our great supporters Wolfchester, Splatt’s and Hobson Stores we had a strong year financially.
The biggest challenge was competitor numbers at the ‘away’ events of Winton and Phillip Island, for 2018 we have made the decision to drop the VSCRC Winton meaning only one trip to Winton for the Festival of Speed. The reason for this was to try and strengthen our ties with VHRR who have supported us in the last few years and given us good track time, our aim for 2018 is 30 cars at FoS!
Again we will head to Sandown twice, and Phillip Island twice, the core numbers at Phillip Island have struggled but this is one of the best tracks in the southern hemisphere so we need to see some support for this event.
We will venture to Adelaide once more, two years ago we were there for the day night event at Mallala and the locals really supported us and the organisers treated us well, for 2018 we are going to the all new Tailem Bend circuit. We are working very hard on this event to make this a great weekend away so stay tuned.
On a committee level we really are trying to drive numbers, we need everyone to support this and have some great racing in 2018, we have some great cars, great personalities and we have very clean and fair racing. Whats not to like!
On a car front we have some new cars, new faces and returning competitors with Robin Bailey returning, Rodney Gibb debuting his ZT V8, Andrew Howell looking to come back and Vince Gucciardo in his C GT V8 making the racing up front exciting. Ross Kaigg’s old MG B has been sold and new owner is aiming for a few rounds in 2018, while David Vernall has purchased a ZR 160 and will return and Sean Herlihy’s MG F will be shared between Sean and father Mike. Making 2018 a very exciting year!
Cheers,
Paul Vernall
