The MG CC-V ‘Back on Track’ event has been relaunched as the Shannons Motorsport Australia Festival by MG Car Club Victoria.
The initial event being postponed due to the Victorian restrictions on travel which would have prevented a number of entrants, only to then clash with PIARC Island Magic, the final date has been set as December 11-13th 2020 to squeeze in a ‘Return to Race’ event in prior to rolling over into 2021.
The event has seen Motorsport Australia come on board and a refresh of planned events and will now feature Payce Porsche Carrera Cup as the headline act.
David Vernall confirmed the change of plans, “its been tough with all the various stakeholders but with the huge support of Motorsport Australia and their return to race process, as well as the MG Car Club we have now go a date with some great support. Porsche Australia have provided support with their Payce Carrera Cup and Michelin Sprint series, plus the Porsche 944 challenge. MG Racing is obviously a must for us alongside some sprints and a ‘Formula Libre’ style class called Formula Free setup by Tim Macrow”.
The event will see a normal race meeting format of qualifying plus at least three races across two days.
MG Racing captain Paul Vernall commented there is huge support for this event, “this showcases the MG Car Club is at the forefront of club motorsport in Victoria getting this event off the ground with such strong support form Motorsport Australia and their partners. All the stakeholders should be commended for some amazing work, and we have had a huge amount of interest from competitors during the last few weeks eager to get back on track so we expect at least 25 cars on the grid”.
