MG RV8 Racer unveiled ahead of 2023 campaign

Simon Elliott has unveilled his challenger for the 2023 season and beyond at the MGCC Victoria clubrooms in Nunawading in front of just over 100 of the clubs members and board of directors.

The MG RV8 has a close connection with Peter Clark who recently passed away, Clark originally campaigned the chassis in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s before an accident saw him start from scratch building an outright competitor clothed in RV8 bodywork. The project stalled and with declining health Peter sought a new owner, Simon Elliott had been campaigning his Lotus Elan 26R in our Invited British class but had aspirations for a MG that would see similar competitiveness, the project of the RV8 appealed to him and after an inspection and conversation a deal was done…

Simon’s business Derby Works has overseen the build from roller to full blown build and the car presented is ready for shakedown and testing prior to the 2023 season. Elliott was excited to finally show off the car, “it has been a big project, but it is really good to see it how it is now and as a running car. To share it with MG Racing and the MGCC is really special and I can’t wait to get it on track”. The car is unique with it’s RV8 bodywork flared, and sports three piece 16″ wheels, a sequential gearbox and 5.0 fuel injected Rover V8 will be a sight to behold when it hits the track late in 2022 ahead of a 2023 season. Kay Herlihy president of the MGCC Victoria was enthusiastic at the interst in the car, “its been great to have it here, the members really enjoyed it and Simon and Sean spoke well and entertained everyone, a big thank you to Simon for bringing it along”.

The car will join a resurgent field in 2023 with Philip Chester expected to return to his B GT V8 and the expected return of the Howell family in 2023.
