Winton Festival of Speed Preview – Part 1 – Invited British & Classic classes

Part 1 of the Winton Preview we give a preview of the Invited British, Specials and Classic fields.

The Classic class will see some great competition, leading the pack will be John Stevenson, having competed at each round for the last two seasons including the trip to South Australia at the start of this season the green MG B will be the one to beat in the class as he tries to continue his strong form. Chasing him will include Peter Rose who’s familiar blue MG B will return after missing the last round and a few minor repairs he is looking for a strong run, Greg White’s bright yellow MG B can’t be missed on track, sporadic appearances by White don’t prove the raw pace he shows and after a few sessions he will be on the pace. David Aberdeen returns after running this round last year, his beautiful white B GT may not be the fastest car but it has run very strongly and will be in the mix without fail. Making the trip down for the first time this season is Steven Jones, Steve’s white Midget looks the business and apart from some minor gremlins has shown good speed. The car having strong history with Geoff Foster back in the 90’s! Colin Ward and Bret McManus will make the trip down from NSW, the MG B’s are fast and will be very much in the top 3, joining him will be Bob Rowntree, long time tuner of anything BMC will be looking for a class win if he can! Peter Mohacsi will return again after having had a run with us last season showing how much fun we have when we are all away!

The specials features regular and seasoned campaigner Jim Robertson in his familiar L18 Datsun powered MG Midget, the car has a long history in Australian motorsport and would be eligible for a historic log book however Robertson enjoys getting out and playing with the MG guys instead.

Invited British Sportscars is a class that caters for the finest of non MG British products, leading the charge will be Barry Pritchett’s Triumph TR6 which is fairly rapid for a TR6, while partner Ursula Weidenmuller in her TR6 will be on track. Joining them is Keith Ondarchie in his very pretty TR4 and having his debut with the series is NSW driver Simon Meyer in an Austin Healey Sprite, Simon a former Australian and State Karting champion.
