Chester clean sweeps the Island

Round 5 hit the picturesque Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for Round 5 of the Victorian State Circuit Racing Series.

One of the smaller grids from recent times put on some great racing with Phil Chester clean sweeping the weekend in the MG B GT V8.  Running gunner for most of the weekend was Jason Holmes who despite a glitch in race 2 managed to snag pole position and pick up two seconds, and a third on his way to a solid points haul.

Championship protagonist Vince Gucciardo struck trouble on Sunday mornings race and put the glitch on his radar, he bounced back with the fastest lap of a non V8 MG in the final race on his way back to 4th place.  Returning for the first time in 2 years, former champion Cody Hill drove an MG ZR 190 and had a tough weekend.  In qualifying he struggled to get the best out of himself but resurrected a good result in the opening race but finished the weekend with an early shower.

Returning for the first time this year is Rod Wells, a strong run in his Midget although not as fast as he was hoping in pure lap speed, he had a solid weekend and is hoping to build off it.

The series continues at Sandown in 4 weeks time as part of Sandown Historic
