Our top 2 for the 2019 season were celebrated amongst a enjoyable night at Melbourne’s Rivers Edge. Attendees included representatives from the MGCC Victoria, the 2020 MG Racing committee and former presidents of the MGCC Victoria.
The 2019 champions saw Philip Chester take his 4th straight championship in his MG B GT V8 by 4 points over Vince Gucciardo in his MG C GT V8. The title going down to the final day of competition in 2019 and Gucciardo winning the last race of 2019 to put his best foot forward.
The pair battled during 2019 as Gucciardo and Chester tied for the round win at Phillip Island, before Gucciardo took pole at Winton as well as race wins at Winton and Sandown, however a clean sweep at both round 1 and Sydney for round 3 shaped the year and gave Chester enough of a gap to hold on for the championship.
The battle for third brewed between some unlikely protagonists, Tony Vollebregt, David Anderson and Greg White battled throughout 2019. Vollebregt dropping out of the hunt at the final round due to engine failure while White and Anderson would go down to the last race of the year. Somewhat controversially Anderson brushing track limits but deemed okay he sealed third overall ahead of White both each as deserving as the other.
Both will return in 2020 to take on the battle once more.
