The championship Heats up as Gucciardo leads

The MG Road Racing Championship is four rounds down and just two remain in the 2016 season, the championship has swung with the last two rounds as Adrian Akhurst was leading early on in the big ZT V8 only to miss the last round, Phil Chester was expected to take a commanding lead however a surprise contender has jumped to the front.

The last round at Winton saw Jason Holmes the big mover picking up 90 championship points, Vince Gucciardo played the consistency card and picked up 74 points courtesy of a strong class, while Phil Chester suffered a DNF and picked up just 53 championship points.

What does this all mean in the championship?

Adrian Akhurst has dropped to 5th place in the championship after leading at round 2, John Stevenson has consistently been running and finds himself in 4th place on 121 points.  Jason Holmes missed the opening round and courtesy of a big haul of 90 points at the last round has moved to 3rd with 206 points in the championship, just ahead is Phil Chester who has run 2nd all year on 209 points, a DNF at the last round put the pressure on and he suffered with a 34 point loss compared to Holmes.  The biggest benefit has gone to Vince Gucciardo who with a consistant season has found himself in the lead with 217 points and an 8 point lead on Chester and 11 on Holmes leading into the penultimate round of the championship.
